Recipient Profile

Natural beauty
Thank you for visiting the Silver Generation Fund. We are in search of donations in the form of hair and/or money in order to provide gray wigs to our "Silver Generation" who are affected by hair loss. Women with gray hair have an extremely arduous task of finding gray human hair. Our goal is to get enough gray hair donated to this fund along with monetary contributions so that we can provide our gray haired community with a beautiful custom gray wig.

Encouraging Words

As a nurse, I care for others daily at work and I couldn't have thought of a better plan for my hair than to help make someone smile.
 Anonymous - Apr 13, 2014

I simply would like to donate my very thick grey hair to help others.
 Anonymous - Apr 05, 2014

I made the commitment to donate my hair to Silver's fund a while back and it just now grew to the required 11" length. The salon I go to is run by a wonderful Vietnamese lady who worked with donated hair in Vietnam. When she heard that I am donating my hair she gave me a beautiful red ponytail from another client to add to mine for the donation. I hope that if Silver can't use it, it can be transferred to another fund.
 Joanne K - Mar 21, 2014

I just hope my hair helps someone in need, who has suffered medical related hair loss. I know that can be deviating to endure, along with all the related pain and suffering. Hope this can help with the healing process.

 Fran E - Feb 24, 2014

My hair is silver and goes to my waist so plan to cut it shoulder length so there will be plenty for a wig.

 Anonymous - Oct 30, 2012

Thank you for using grey hair to make wigs. Donating my hair is the least I can do to help others. I was very frustrated by places not accepting grey hair. I understand why, but...as you say "Not everyone wants youthful hair to replace hairloss due to cancer and other illnesses." Two years ago I sent you my first donation and now I can do it again! Thank you for all you do.
 Pat C - Oct 30, 2012

 Anonymous - Oct 17, 2012

Hello, my name is Anita. I learned of this fund from a classmate of mine. We had our 50th high school class reunion. There wasn't a lot of gray hair there. Fortunately, mine turned white instead of gray and I hear,"well, if mine was the color yours is I wouldn't dye it either". I have died it in the past but not for a lot of years. My hair will have to grow a while before there will be enough to donate. What are the requirements?
 Anonymous - Oct 08, 2012

Watching my mother die from cancer over thirty five years ago, one of the things that stays with me is her disappointment at not being able to find a wig that would enable her to look like herself. I'm hoping I can help someone else who may be in a similar circumstance with my [hair donation].
 Anonymous - Aug 27, 2012

I lost my mom to ovarian cancer. She always loved my hair - if I had the chance, I would have given it to her to wear - now maybe someone else's mom can use it to feel more normal. Thanks!

Ivah Kittrell Pratt, nearly 95, wished to remain of service to others even following a stroke in 2008 that left her unable to move her left side. So she began growing out her silver locks to donate. The hair finally reached adequate length so she had it shorn off to donate about 2 weeks before Easter. It ended up being one of her last acts of service, since she died peacefully 2 days after Mother's Day.

I have outrageously thick "conversation-starter" multi-color grey hair, about 12" long. Tomorrow I'm having it cut short after more than 20 years of long hair. I've been searching for a place to donate my silver-toned locks, in honor of my Mom who died of breast cancer in 1995. Here's to the Silver Generation Fund! Wear it well!
 Tarz faith P - Dec 02, 2009
