Recipient Profile

Trichotillomania (BFRB) Awareness
Ribbon
My name is Kyli and my life has been heavily affected by Trichotillomania. Trichotillomania (or Trich for short) is a disorder which causes those afflicted to compulsively pull out their own hair. Trich is considered a Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior (BFRB), and many also believe it is linked to OCD. It is estimated that 0.5 - 3 percent of people will experience Trich at some point in their lives, so it is a relatively rare disorder. Nearly all those that have Trich end up having patches of missing hair as a result. I seem to be an extreme case, as I have pulled so badly that I am almost completely bald. I have struggled with this for eleven years, wearing hats, bananas and many other articles to cover it up. Until recently I had never really considered experimenting with wigs to help cope. When I could, I bought an inexpensive cosplay wig, but as you can guess it was rather obvious. It's not that I want to completely hide my baldness, but I feel it would greatly help my self-esteem to have a nice looking wig that will make me feel like I can have hair again. However, due to recent events, it has been hard to make ends meet, let alone purchase a decent wig. All of this is to say, that I hope you are willing to consider donating to this cause and help me return to some normalcy. I appreciate anything, even simply words of encouragement and kindess. Thank you for reading, and if you want to learn more about Trichotillomania or BFRBs in general, I recommend the websites bfrb.org and trichstop.com! :)
