Recipient Profile |
12 Year Old Survivor My daughter Mariah was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma back in November of 2007. She has recently completed therapy as of 09/21/2008. This has been a life changing experience and as of now still trying to cope with what has happened to my little girl. She was put on a 5 drug regimen and received 18 courses of chemotherapy through out the year. The doctors also agreed that Mariah should receive field radiation therapy 04/29/2008-06/10/2008 directly to the site which was the back of her head. Mariah is now 12 years old and just realizing that the localized radiation to the scalp has caused her skin to breakdown. Although it has healed, the skin was so badly damaged and will never be able to grow hair. It hurts me so bad to know how much she has suffered. I've heard her say that she was ugly. She is in independent studies because she is not comfortable with herself. I am a single parent with 3 girls working at a grocery store called Winco Foods. Hair restoration is very expensive and I was wondering if you can please help my daughter feel like she is beautiful again. I don't know what else to do so please contact me ASAP. |

Mariahs 12th B Day My name is Tanya Martinez and I am Mariah's mom. You never think that it is going to happen to you. I am here to let you know that it could happen to any one. She is a very brave little girl and deserves to look like a beautiful little girl again. The radiation therapy literally scarred the back of her head and will never be able to grow hair again. As of now her hair is about 2 inches long and only growing on the top of her head. |
