Recipient Profile |
A picture of my fiance & I at the first Relay for Life I was able to attend after my diagnosis! For two years and three months, I have been living with a diagnosis of FHC, or fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. Since my Cancer-versary of May 3rd, 2007, I have participated in multiple surgeries for resections and/or removals of various organs, like my liver, diaphragm, color, and gall bladder, with a variety of other procedures also requiring either general or local anesthesia. I have been treated with five chemotherapies and one targeted therapy, so I am currently on my sixth regimen, and the very first to ever look as if it is going to cause TOTAL hair loss. I estimate within two more weeks and it will all be gone, but to expedite the process, I intend to have it buzzed off next Thursday.
Now, my wonderful fiance and I started dating one month to the day after my first surgery connected to my cancer, and we have dated ever since. He proposed on August 25th, 2009, in the hotel room we were staying at the night after I had received the very first positive results I had EVER gotten about my chemotherapy actually working. Needless to say, that day was beautiful, memorable, and absolutely perfect for me.
However, with the economy like it is and the cost of traveling to and from Duke University from my hometown (a 365 mile trip, or 5 1/2 hours) every other week has been draining on our pocketbooks and with the upcoming wedding, our budget really can\'t call for a wig that will not be obvious, itchy, or uncomfortable. Therefore, I have set this fund up myself in hopes that maybe some of you can help donate even just a small amount to helping me have the wedding day of my dreams! ANY donation will be SO, SO, SO much appreciated!!
If you would like to read more of my story, please go to www.canswercolumn.blogspot.com, where I archive a weekly column I write for a local newspaper detailing how I live my life as a young woman with cancer.
Again, I thank you eternally for simply stopping by...much love!! |
