Recipient Profile

Natural beauty
Thank you for visiting the Silver Generation Fund. We are in search of donations in the form of hair and/or money in order to provide gray wigs to our "Silver Generation" who are affected by hair loss. Women with gray hair have an extremely arduous task of finding gray human hair. Our goal is to get enough gray hair donated to this fund along with monetary contributions so that we can provide our gray haired community with a beautiful custom gray wig.

I think I already signed up...and am just about ready to cut my 12 inches off! Would you check? My email is rev.lorraine.anderson@gmail.com. where do I mail it?
 Lorraine A - Aug 23, 2017

This donation is the entire, uncut growth starting from when I was bald from my own chemo, a span of two years. One odd thing: the first three inches of growth are very curly from when the chemo was still in my system but as time passed the hair straightened to what was normal for me. Odd to have curly and only wavy on the same hair. NO PERM!

 Brian B - Jun 30, 2016

I have been growing out my hair for 15 months to honor my mother who is battling her second cancer. She had a hard time finding a gray wig when she first lost her hair to chemo. She did eventually find one. I thought there must be many gray/silver/white-haired women who could use wigs for hair loss due to chemo. Mine grows fast and is pretty healthy, so I decided to grow it out. Will you accept mine? I am getting it cut today.

I have been growing my silver/ brown hair for about 4 years to donate in memory of my father. My dad passed away from esophageal cancer and loved long hair. I'm sure he would not mind that I cut it in his memory. I also lost a dear friend to MRSA, following chemo treatments for breast cancer. She passed before she received her wig. Anyway, this is one fund I am happy to donate to since you accept grey hair. Prayers go to the recipient.

Thanks for all you do to make wigs for people in need of them! I grew my hair out mostly for my dear friend Kawena Cushingham who died last August. Not for her in particular to have my hair for a wig, just motivated by her strength, courage, and consideration for others even while she did her best dealing with multiple myeloma. I figure growing my hair out was the least I could do.
 Laurie P - Apr 06, 2015

I am thrilled to donate my silver hair to this fund. It has been a process growing this mane out, but when I have shared that I will be donating it to this Silver Fund, the response I have gotten is "That is so cool! Good to know that there is a place to donate gray hair." I hope that my hair will make a nice looking wig for someone who needs one.

I sent a message to your administrator and have not heard back, is this an active hair donation site for the purpose of making wigs for those in need. Or is this a for profit site? I want to make sure my hair is going to someone who needs it and if there is a fee to them it is reasonable.
 Laurie P - Mar 10, 2015

Thank you for accepting grey hair!! I have been growing my hair out for awhile now in hopes of helping someone in need.
 Jewell S - Mar 10, 2015

I am so glad you take gray hair. I have been growing mine out to donate to another fund that no longer accepts it. Very disappointing to say the least. I am confident that finding your site was an act of providence. Thank you for providing the service to those in need!

My white hair donation is 9 inches at its longest
 Anonymous - Feb 15, 2015

I have twelve to fourteen inches of white/gray hair. Hair stylist states that the hair is unusual in that it is pretty and NOT course. I have grown my hair for four years to donate to cancer through Angel Hair Foundation, but find that they have suspended their hair program. I decided to grow my hair for donation, because I met a lady with Cancer in the hospital registration office that commented about how she would love to have a gray-hair wig. I thought that is something I can do. Now, after not blow drying or styling with heat for years, I am having trouble finding someone to take it! So glad to find your site. I am getting my hair cut on 2/11/15. Thank you for accepting my "gray" hair that no one seems to value.
 Cheryl G - Feb 10, 2015

Hi, I have 8 inches of silver/gray/white straight hair that pretty thick. I'd like to donate it in two weeks.

My long Salt & Pepper hair is being cut later today. I anticipate having a good donation of hair. I am so glad to find your organization as it seems that no one else thinks about the mature woman's needs when fighting nasty diseases.

I am a 53 year-old gal with premature white hair..I quit dying my hair just 4 years ago when i learned that the platnum blonde wasn't near as pretty as my natural color! Since then I have received countless compliments on my beautiful hair...it is extremely thick, in folicle and quantity. I pray my 10" ponytail being donated finds a gal just waiting for her own compliment of beauty. Whoever you are, you are loved by God!

God bless you for what you are doing. It is making a big difference in a lot of lives!

I made the commitment to donate my hair to Silver's fund a while back and it just now grew to the required 11" length. The salon I go to is run by a wonderful Vietnamese lady who worked with donated hair in Vietnam. When she heard that I am donating my hair she gave me a beautiful red ponytail from another client to add to mine for the donation. I hope that if Silver can't use it, it can be transferred to another fund.

 Anonymous - Oct 30, 2012

Thank you for using grey hair to make wigs. Donating my hair is the least I can do to help others. I was very frustrated by places not accepting grey hair. I understand why, but...as you say "Not everyone wants youthful hair to replace hairloss due to cancer and other illnesses." Two years ago I sent you my first donation and now I can do it again! Thank you for all you do.

Hello, my name is Anita. I learned of this fund from a classmate of mine. We had our 50th high school class reunion. There wasn't a lot of gray hair there. Fortunately, mine turned white instead of gray and I hear,"well, if mine was the color yours is I wouldn't dye it either". I have died it in the past but not for a lot of years. My hair will have to grow a while before there will be enough to donate. What are the requirements?
 Anonymous - Oct 08, 2012

Ivah Kittrell Pratt, nearly 95, wished to remain of service to others even following a stroke in 2008 that left her unable to move her left side. So she began growing out her silver locks to donate. It ended up being one of her last acts of service, since she died peacefully 2 days after Mother's Day.
